When installing a wood floor there are so many decisions to make. What type of wood to use, what color, laminate or glue down? Once the decision is made and the materials are in your home the next decision is what direction should the planks lay? The rule of thumb is to lay the planks in the direction perpedicular to the front door on the first floor and the opposite direction on the second floor. Another option, which is often overlooked and is a good choice for many rooms is to run the planks diagonally. It will cost more in labor and material but it is often worth it.
